One of the highest priorities at the Evergreen Martial Arts Academy is that of maintaining the highest quality martial arts programs and producing the highest quality martial artists. One of the reasons we don't use contracts is that we believe that it is impossible to predict when a student will achieve a specific belt level.

As outlined in the various curriculum pages, there are minimum preparation times required between belt tests. This is the length of time that has been proved again and again to be the minimum length of time it will take to adequately prepare for the next belt test. Even students who are either very quick learners or who acquire skills very quickly still need sufficient practice time to consolidate their knowledge and skills. All students are also expected to continue to improve the forms, skills and techniques they learned for previous belt tests. The programs are cumulative and all elements should be practiced regularly and improved consistently throughout the student's martial arts training.

Evergreen Martial Arts Academy instructors will always push students to achieve their full potential and almost all of our higher ranking students have chosen to continue their preparation beyond the minimum in order to achieve a higher standard. In our Tae Kwon Do program, the average student takes four and a half years to attain first degree black belt where the minimum is three and a half years. As a direct result of this attitude, the standard of our Tae Kwon Do black belts is unsurpassed. Many other martial arts schools churn out black belts like a production line, but the quality of these graduates is highly variable at best. A black belt should really mean something to a martial artist. It should be something that the student has worked diligently for for years and they should feel proud of their accomplishments throughout their preparation. A black belt should not be awarded to a student merely because they have 'served their time', it should reflect the student's continued dedication to self-improvement.
