Practical and realistic self-defense techniques are emphasized at the Evergreen Martial Arts Academy and techniques from other martial arts are used without prejudice. As with most martial arts, forms (known as 'katas' or 'routines' in other styles of martial arts) are a prominent part of our Tae Kwon Do curriculum, along with a wide variety of other skills and drills, including blocks, kicks, strikes, joint locks and submission holds. A particularly popular part of Evergreen Martial Arts Academy's Tae Kwon Do curriculum is weapons skills, techniques and forms. We draw from a large number of martial arts to provide our students with a far wider variety of weapons, weapons techniques and weapons forms than any other martial art school in the area. Sparring is introduced gently into the curriculum at Evergreen Martial Arts Academy. The skills practiced initially are designed to improve the students' control and safety awareness. Only after these skills have been acquired to a sufficient level to permit safe sparring are realistic fighting skills practiced (for self-defense purposes only, of course). Evergreen Martial Arts Academy's Tae Kwon Do instructors are of the highest standard in all respects. Maintaining low instructor-to-student ratios ensure a high degree of individual attention. Progress to the next belt level is based on the individual student's dedication and improvement - not just attendance. The highest priority is placed on helping every single student to excel. Evergreen Martial Arts Academy provides classes for adults, kids and family classes, where the adults and kids can workout together as a family. Below is the class schedule.
You will notice from the above schedule that the classes are typically 1½ hours in length. We feel that a shorter class length both restricts the variety of material that can be covered in the class and also lowers the quality of the class. All students have access to up to four classes per week, without restriction. When students have attained green belt level, they can also attend the weapons classes on Monday, Wednesday and Saturday. Evergreen Martial Arts Academy uses a pay-as-you-go plan and does not use any form of contracts. We feel that contracts and high quality martial arts programs are incompatible. Please read 'Why No Contracts?' below for more discussion on this topic. Please note that Evergreen Martial Arts Academy is a Non-profit organization (IRS 501(c)(3)), so rest assured that the fees are established at a level necessary to cover our operating costs only. Nobody is making a profit from your tuition fees. The fee schedule is shown in the following table.
As you can see, we strongly encourage families to participate in Tae Kwon Do classes together by offering substantial discounts for multiple family members. Martial arts classes are a great way for families to spend quality time together. They say that 'The family that plays together, stays together'. The table also clearly shows that if class fees are paid quarterly instead of monthly, there is an additional 10% discount. Please note that for the flat fees shown above, students can attend as many as five classes per week. Of course, most students attend the two or three classes a week that best fit their personal schedule. Please contact us if you have any additional questions about class fees. Why No Contracts? If you are unable to attend classes for an extended period (illness, injury or travel, for instance), then you should not have to pay for them. At Evergreen Martial Arts Academy, if you know that you won't be able to attend classes for a while, then you won't have to pay for them. If you lose interest in Tae Kwon Do or a change in your circumstances prevents you from continuing your Tae Kwon Do training, you shouldn't have to pay a hefty financial penalty. Although we would hate to lose a student, we understand if they have a change of heart or a change of circumstances and we would prefer them not to leave with a bitter taste in their mouths. At Evergreen Martial Arts Academy, you will not be forced to pay for classes that you are not attending any more and you won't have to pay any penalties. After all, your circumstances might change again in the future, and we would like to have you back again. Students are individuals and do not always progress at the same rate. It simply isn't possible to accurately predict how long it would take an individual student to progress to specific belt level. To present a contract to a student, telling them that they will achieve a specific level in a specific length of time is nonsense. At Evergreen Martial Arts Academy, our instructors will always be encouraging the students to strive to reach their full potential. They will be encouraged to prepare thoroughly for belt tests and to make sure that they are ready. Sometimes, that preparation takes longer than the minimum required preparation time and often, that is a decision that the student has made alone. If we are to pursue the highest levels of achievement, we cannot possibly predict how long it will take. |
