Judo is currently an Olympic sport. The training will be directed to permit students to eventually  engage in judo practice as followed under the Olympic rules.

The Judo program will begin with instruction on how to fall.  After the student has learned to take a fall, the instruction will turn to judo throws, grappling (hold downs), and for older students and adults, submission by chokes and arm bars. The beginning age of students is suggested to be around 8 years old. Male and female students are encouraged to participate.

Here's video clip showing some Judo Ippons (competition-winning throws) highlights from various competitions - very exciting.

Another video clip to emphasis the grappling/submission techniques employed by Judoka (Judo practitioners).

In addition to the physical training, there is a mental and psychological aspect to judo training which will be emphasized.  The non-physical aspects include discipline, respect of others, self confidence, and endurance.

Sensei Tom Tabuchi currently holds Judo classes once a week, on Saturdays from 9:30am until 11:00am. The class is open to adults and kids. As the class grows, it's likely that a second class per week will be added to the schedule. The fee is $30 per month with a ten percent discount if paid three-monthly and additional discounts for multiple family members.
